We’re sometimes asked if one can do tricks on our bikes or have people attempting to pop a wheelie in the heat of one of our night rides.

We usually crack a joke and gently remind our guests that our bicycles are city bikes that already suffer enough with the potholes, bumps, and construction sites they face on the streets of New Orleans!

With time, the repeated abuses end up damaging the wheels or bearings and if it sounds a little abstract, have a look at what I found this morning when I took apart a headset, trying to figure out why I couldn’t properly adjust it:

That’s right, the ring supposed to keep the balls in place is completely worn out and unable to do its job.

Fortunately, this type of part can easily be changed…we wouldn’t want our bikes to lose their bearings!
