The Annual Bike Easy Second Line Parade
When we want to celebrate something in New Orleans, we typically do so with a Second Line Parade. The second line has its origins in our funeral traditions as it relates to our Benevolent Associations. On Sunday’s in the Fall and Spring our social aid and pleasure clubs also have them to showcase their involvement in the community. (Check out a calendar of these second lines here).
Bike Easy, our favorite non-profit in New Orleans also has a second line to drum up support and display their involvement in the community. However, their second line is on bikes! The Bike Easy bicycle second line is an annual event. It normally takes place in late October…around my Birthday weekend so it’s always a treat. The easiest way to support and follow Bike Easy is by subscribing to their Newsletter. However, they also have an active social media presence as well.
Make plans to attend next year! If you don’t have a bicycle our full day rental (9am-5pm) is only $30! We provide a helmet and a lock and will set you on your way to this amazing family friendly event. Follow Bike Easy, mark your calendar when the 2025 Second Line is scheduled, then come onto our website and reserve a bicycle in advance here.
The departure point and route changes every year. This year the route took us through Bayou St. John, Gentilly, the 7th Ward, and the edge of the French Quarter. We look forward to having you in dat number next Fall!!!!
