Explore the Ninth Ward by Bike!
Our itinerary of the Bywater and St. Claude Neighborhoods in the Ninth Ward is designed as a day trip. Embarking from our shop in the French Quarter on a rental bike, we will put you on the best route to the Upper Ninth Ward. Once you pedal over, here are a few of our recommendations (Click the address to open Google Maps).
STUPH’D BEIGNETS
Address: 3325 St Claude Ave, New Orleans, LA 70117
If you are doing a full day rental and picking up the bicycles in the morning, we recommend that you start with breakfast at Stuph’d Beignets. Beignet in English translates to Fritter…or fried dough. While Cafe du Monde popularized the beignet with powdered sugar, that is not the only way they’re prepared. When I was growing up my great grand mother would make them and we would open them and fill them with red beans. Stuph’d beignets brings back some of those memories. Where they don’t have a red bean beignet, their crawfish filled beignets are knocking on my great grandmothers front door. Can’t recommend them enough.
2. ST. VINCENT DE PAUL CEMETERY
Address: 1401 Louisa St, New Orleans, LA 70117
Visit one of mystic above ground cemeteries. A few blocks away from Stuph’D Beignets, the St. Vincent de Paul Cemetery is a short ride away. Founded in 1844, It is a large cemetery and encompasses a few city blocks. The writing on the tombs are in both French and English. Some of them even list the country of origin that the deceased originated from. One can easily spend a couple of hours here musing on the beauty of the tombs and learning about the families that make New Orleans culture so rich.
3. THE BARGAIN CENTER
Address: 3200 Dauphine St, New Orleans, LA 70117
Full of oddities and hidden treasures, The Bargain Center is the perfect place to find the unique memorabilia that you’re looking for. More then a shop the Bargin Center is more like a mini-warehouse. They also have a section of the shop that has art.

However if you looking for a sit down restaurant you may want to consider Jack Dempsey’s.
B. Jack Dempsey’s Restaurant

As we would say in the local “Yat” dialect, “Ma mom an dem grew up a few blocks from dere.” Jack Dempsey’s is actually a spot where my family would eat when I was a kid. It’s a converted creole cottage, hole in the wall restaurant offering the kind of New Orleans fare you would expect at such an establishment.

8. N7
Address: 1117 Montegut St, New Orleans, LA 70117
When you arrive at N7 you may wonder where the eatery is located. We pictured the entrance to avoid confusion. N7 is a neighborhood French restaurant and wine bar. N7 specializes in French cuisine, often infused with a Japanese touch.
The restaurant is set off the street behind a tall fence amidst a garden, with indoor and outdoor seating. The building was previously home to a tire shop. Before that it was a stable for carriage horses.
N7’s name derives from Nationale 7 (N7), the highway that once ran from Paris to the border of Italy. Known as the “Route des Vacances”, vacationing Parisians would take the road on their way South. Along the way, the Michelin Guide would direct them to the mom and pop restaurants which began to appear in farmhouses and hotels along the way to cater to them. Hence the origin of the Michelin Star.
Reservations are recommended and can be made via their website.
